The Beauty of Spring

4/22/2025

Each blog will be included with a song because I truly believe music inspires me to be a better photographer. This weeks song of choice is Almost by Hozier! Ironically, on Earth Day this morning, I was treated to a breathtaking scene on my commute. A stunning sunrise broke through the fog, casting a soft glow over the landscape, and I decided to take a more scenic route to work. That decision proved to be a gift.
As I drove, I passed a spot so striking that I couldn’t help but turn around. Despite my usual hesitation about pulling over to take photographs—often worried about how others might perceive it—I knew this was a moment I couldn’t let slip by. At the second location I stopped at, another driver in a Subaru slowed down and put on their hazard lights, seemingly curious about what had caught my attention. They stopped just short of a nearby stop sign and, judging by their expression, shared in the appreciation of the scene. It was a small but meaningful connection, a shared sense of wonder.
Moments like these remind me why I love photography—not only for the joy of capturing beauty, but also for the spontaneous discoveries and connections it brings. I believe this passion carries into my teaching. When my students see how inspired I am by the world around me, it encourages them to stay curious, creative, and engaged with their own artistic journeys.
